Situation Beginning in 2004 and projected to be completed in 2008, the Marquette Interchange project is the first Self-Consolidation Concrete project authorized by the WisDOT. Spancrete is providing precast girders and wall panels for the project.
Challenge Spancrete was challenged to meet demands for an affordable finished product, quick installation and low maintenance while acheiving the desired aesthetics. Spancrete won the bid to supply 2 of the 4 components of the project including the North Leg, the West Leg, and Clybourn Street/16th Street.
Solution Spancrete's Green Bay plant is supplying 151-54in. W-girders, 20-70in. I-girders, and 10-36in. I-girders. Forty 6/10in. cables, each stressed to 43,000lbs of pressure, are contained in each beam. Additionally, Spancrete is supplying 8-54in. W-girders, 111-45in. I-girders, and 18-54in. I-girders to serve as tempoary bridges for redirected traffic. To minimize inconvenience to travelers, the girders are transported and installed between midnight and 5AM.
Spancrete's Waukesha plant is manufacturing and supplying the 1,300 wall panels to the project. Six 10ft. x 20ft. panels are manufactured per day with Self-Consolidating Concrete. Superflux 2000 PC, the first product developed by Axim for SCC, was used to produce the SCC mix. Catexol 2000 R.H.E., a non-chloride accelerator, provides high early strengths which reduces production time by enabling forms to be stripped at a faster rate. Catexol A.E. 260 is a patented air-entrainer which provides a stable air matrix in the concrete. All of these products were used to produce an effective SCC mix. Each panel uses 12 cables and is finished with a light sanblast and vertical/horiziontal reveals. |
