Customer Spotlight on Steve Pozza at New Berlin Redi-Mix — Milwaukee, WI
AXIM recently supplied admixtures for a uniquely challenging job at Waukesha Fire Station Number 1. The pour consisted of a 33 ft. long "S" shaped wall, 43 ft. tall and 2 ft. thick, using a total of 103 cubic yards of cement. The job demanded a single pour with no vibration and, above all, an aesthetically pleasing look when complete. Architectural specifications called for self-consolidating concrete, so AXIM worked with New Berlin in advance to arrive at the right mix design.
We used Duraflux 33, a new age polycarboxylate high-range water-reducer and L-6, a viscosity modifier. Due to concerns about full liquid head pressure on the wall, we ran one continuous pour at a controlled rate of about 6 ft. per hour, which allowed the concrete to set up as we poured. Challenges during the extended time frame were consistency, flow and consolidation. The key was to dose so that the concrete would be self-consolidating. AXIM's admixture technology helped to achieve the proper combination of strength and flow for a successful pour.

"We've always felt a strong relationship with AXIM. They're very dedicated to our needs. They're responsive and they understand the timeliness of our business." — Steve Pozza, New Berlin Redi-mix
