Structure (lightweight):
Situation A parking structure was to be constructed in a congested downtown area. Planning and coordination had to be synchronized to adapt to the stringent project requirements.
Challenge The ground was unsuitable for conventional caissons. The foundation was to be poured in three separate mass pours each totaling 2,000 yds3. The parking structure itself was entirely made of lightweight concrete. Every yard would have to be placed with a tower crane. A maximum 118 pounds per cubic foot was specified for this lightweight concrete application.
Solution
The foundation was constructed utilizing Axim's patented air-entraining admixture Catexol A.E. 260 and mid-range water-reducing admixture Catexol 2000 Ni. These admixtures in combination aided in the proper workability and placement of the structure's foundation.
Since the downtown area was confining to the project, only 27 yds of the lightweight concrete was able to be placed per hour, with an average deck pour of 280 yds . Every concrete truck was tested for air and unit weight to ensure consistency. Axim's Catexol A.E. 260 was utilized once again for its stable air-entraining properties along with normal water-reducer Catexol 1000 N, high-range water-reducer Catexol 1000 SP-MN and non-chloride accelerator Catexol 2000 R.H.E. for faster setting times.
In the end, Axim's admixture systems helped achieve the project requirements for this challenging downtown structure. |
